Medal Tally

More medals awarded at the start of today's events. (Today was Sanshou, but as you'll recall, medals weren't handed out at the end of yesterday.)

They still haven't given them all out, but of the medals that were awarded today, New Zealand received:

2 more bronze (both to Bronson for his Qun Yang Gun and Changchuan)
2 more silver (Vince and Tom won a joint silver for Qun Yang Gun)
1 exhibition gold (Lucy for Changchuan - exhibition means that there weren't enough entrants in her category to make up a full competition, so the rules for awarding medals work differently)
1 gold (Siu Yuat for Gunshu)

This brings New Zealand's total to:

Gold: 2
Gold (exhibition): 1
Silver: 3
Bronze: 5

Like I say, we still don't have all the results (it could be said that our hosts, while accommodating, friendly and gracious, are a little organizationally challenged). Word is that we're due at least two or three more medals (we think Tom scored one for Jianshu, and Siu Yuat and Mitchell seemed a shoe-in for their two-man form) but we may not know for sure until the team is on it's way home...

Well, exhibition events are the easiest way to get a medal. If there are three or fewer competitors, then it's guaranteed that every single competitor will get a medal - you just have to perform to decide which colour you get.

So, if you're the only one in your age category for an event, then, by default, you get the gold.

I thought the way to go was if there are too few people competing there are no medals awarded? or if there are only 4 people then 1 gold?

OMG all of you's look SHEXY! Congrats guys! :) News from NZ: Jeffrey Wang has broken his leg. Looks like both Zee and Jeffrey will be out of action for awhile.

Horrible mistake. It was Kelvin who broke his leg - not Jeffrey (God dam msn nicks).

ok, so zee is a bit of an idiot. in his high hopes for jeffery to join his dark side, he thought that jeffery told him he broke his leg, when in fact it was actually kelvin (in oz) who broke his leg. jeffery is still my brother, and i'm glad zee is only a half brother.

anyways, can't wait til you guys get back and share all the pics and stories.
